Group Tour Options

The Missouri History Museum is an ideal destination for groups of all types. As a tour coordinator, you have the flexibility to customize the museum experience for your tour program and individual group needs. Choose from an assortment of options or combine to customize the experience for your group.

Groups making reservations at least one week in advance will receive:

  • A 10% Discount in the Missouri History Museum Shop
  • A 10% Discount in Bixby's, the Museum's restaurant, or Bixby's Express
  • Group Orientation -- Our staff will greet your group and provide information about the Museum, exhibits, and wayfinding throughout the building.

Admission

Admission to the Museum is free. A fee may be charged for a special exhibition in which groups receive a discounted rate. The admission discount is offered to groups of 10 or more that reserve in advance. The group leader will receive a complimentary admission when 25 paid admissions are received.

Reservations

Group leaders and operators are encouraged to make reservations in advance, preferably at least two weeks prior to date of arrival. This is necessary to secure staff and alert you to other groups booked. Our qualified coordinators will assist with arrangements and help in recommendations that will make your group’s museum experience and St. Louis visit as enjoyable as possible.

Museum Exhibition Tours

Self Guided Exploration

The museum is available to groups that prefer to explore the museum exhibitions at their own pace.

Tour length – minimum of 60 minutes
Tour cost – FREE unless visiting special exhibition

Guided Tours

The guided tour option is available in our continuing exhibitions and a selection of the special exhibits.

Tour length – 45 - 60 minutes
Tour Cost - $3 per person + cost of special exhibition admission

  • The Civil War in Missouri (Nov 12, 2011 – Mar 17, 2013; guided and self guided)
  • Mammoths and Mastodons: Titans of the Ice Age (Nov 25, 2011 – Apr 15,  2012; self guided)
  • Fire! (May 21, 2012 - Aug 26, 2012; guided and self-guided)
  • Little Black Dress: From Mourning to Night (Sept 29, 2012 - April 21, 2013; guided and self-guided)
  • Underneath It All (June 30, 2012 - April 14, 2013; guided and self-guided)

 

Private Curator Talks

Visitors can learn from the curators who created and researched the exhibitions. Fascinating and insightful discussion are presented exclusively to your group in a private area of the Museum.

Program Length: 45 – 60 minutes
Cost: $75 per group

  • Fire, Plague, and Death: St. Louis, 1849
  • The History of Wedding Fashions

Theatre in the Museum

Theatre in the museum offers dramatic interpretation of historical figures and topics.

Program Length: 15 – 20 minutes
Cost: $75 per group

A variety of programs are available including but not limited to:

  • FIRE!! St. Louis and the Great Fire of 1849
  • Go Home Rosie! -- The life of a WWII factory worker after the war
  • The Life and Times of Absalom Grimes: Civil War Spy
  • Paddle Wheels and Pantalettes -- Woman's early adventures in the Steam Age
  • Veuve Chouteau -- St. Louis's founding mother finds out about the Louisiana Purchase and is not amused.
  • Hard Tack to Hard Marches: A Union Recruiter's Tale
  • In Flanders Field -- Reminiscences of a WWI soldier
  • Postcards from the Fair -- What was it like to be a kid when people from all over the world came to St. Louis for the 1904 World's Fair?
