About Hunger and Resilience
March 10, 2012 - May 28, 2012

Thirty-six million people—including 13 million children—live in households that experience hunger or the risk of hunger. This represents more than one in ten households in the United States. Developed by photographer Michael Nye, the exhibition About Hunger and Resilience combines 50 evocative portraits with individual audio narratives, offering a glimpse into hunger in the United States. Over four years, Nye visited food banks, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, disaster sites, and other locations in cities large and small. Fifty portraits and audio stories reveal the vulnerability and courage of individuals who have experienced hunger. In simple, eloquent detail, these voices and images offer insight into the topic of hunger. Nye hopes visitors gain a better understanding of a complex issue that is very real for many Americans.
